Orlando Solar Bears Honored Veterans During the Successful Military Appreciation Games

Wow – 12,000+ ice hockey fans filled the Amway Center in purple, teal, and orange in support of the Orlando Solar Bears during the Military Appreciation weekend. On the ice, the team proudly sported camouflage jerseys in honor of our nation’s veterans. Appleton took part in this patriotic celebration by inviting a small group of friends, family, and clients to watch the games in our own private deluxe suite.

Appleton Creative worked with the Solar Bears to promote the Veterans Day games. We created an entire campaign which included an exclusive military-inspired logo, public relations outreach, e-blast, print and banner ads, posters, post cards, and billboards around town and online. Our video department also created in-game video clips and a 10 second PSA that played throughout the game on the Amway’s spectacular jumbotron.

The weekend was a success. If you missed out on any of the action, here are the game day highlights:

On Saturday night, the Solar Bears defeated the Elmira Jackals 5-3 in an amazing third period comeback. In the first period, the Solar Bears fired 16 shots on goal in a scoreless tie at the end of the frame. Elmira turned the tables on Orlando by scoring 2 goals in the second period. Trailing 2-0 heading into the third, Solar Bears center Mat Sisca scored one goal, forward Rob Mignardi and right wing Kevin Baker each scored twice leading the team to a 5-goal victory in the final stanza.

In Sunday afternoon’s game against Gwinnett Gladiators the Solar Bears fell short with a 2-1 loss. Both teams remained scoreless in the first period but the Gladiators struck two goals in the second frame. A late third period goal struck by forward Rob Mignardi brought Orlando back within one, but they couldn’t push through as the Gladiators held on for a 2-1 win.
