What’s Your Four Letters? The Answer May Surprise You

Does your personality lean more towards introversion or extroversion? Last week Appleton learned more about the individual characteristics of each team member by participating in a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment, which helps to measure psychological preferences. Our friend Theresa Heldt at Strategize-It lead the team building workshop and further explained to us each of the four principal psychological functions.

At the end of the assessment, each person received a four-letter combination that measures the dominance of the following traits:

  • Extroversion (E) vs. Introversion (I)
  • Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N)
  • Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F)
  • Judging (J) vs. Perception (P)

During the team building workshop, she split the team into two group, introverts (I) and extroverts (E), to discuss the pros and cons of each personality type. The point of the exercise proved that each type has its own unique advantages and drawbacks. The team was then divided again by sensing (S) and intuition (N) and instructed to draw a picture of their ideal dream house. We were surprised to learn that sensors are all about the details (pizza kitchen, 3 car garage, koi pond), while the intuition group thought mostly about the environment (wrap around porch, stone walls, large windows).
