What Happened to Internet Explorer?
Have you heard the news? After nearly three decades, Microsoft retired Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022. Internet Explorer was released as part of an add-on package for Windows 95 back in 1995. The browser quickly became one of the most popular ways to access the internet, with 95% usage share in 2003. Over the years, Microsoft slowly shifted away from Internet Explorer and has prepared something bigger and better, Microsoft Edge. The new browser is a “faster, more secure and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications.” It seems Microsoft is making an effort to improve the user experience, but how does it compare to the most used browsers in America?
Google Chrome
Starting with the most used platform, Google Chrome allows for speed and plenty of customization options. If you have multiple devices, it syncs everything for you and its security is great, keeping your passwords protected. Something to consider though are some privacy concerns as there are being some issues with Chrome collecting data from users.
Mozilla Firefox
Although not known for its speed, Firefox has great privacy and security to offer users. Extensions to the browser can easily be added, but it is important to keep in mind that the more extensions, the slower the browsing. If privacy is a concern
Safari
Users with Mac devices will most likely use Safari as it is built to work specifically with Apple’s hardware. On top of clear security and privacy settings, Safari has the fast loading times which can compare to Chrome. On the downside, there is not much customization as compared to other browsers.
With people having different website preferences, it is important to keep this in mind when building your own website. Each browser interprets websites differently, which is why compatibility is crucial. Appleton is an award-winning, full-service advertising agency that specializes in Orlando web design services.
