UCF Town & Gown: Supporters of Central Florida’s Public Broadcasting Station

Did you know that Winter Park, FL was once home to the popular PBS star Fred “Mister” Rogers of “Mister Rogers Neighborhood”? This and other interesting news was shared during the annual UCF Town & Gown Friendship Luncheon. At the event, Grant Heston, Associate Vice President of News and Public Affairs at the UCF, gave a lively presentation on how UCF plans to keep Central Florida’s primary PBS channel, WUCF TV, alive and well in our community and why it matters.

The sold-out luncheon, which is a celebration of friendship among leaders at both UCF and in the Orlando community, allowed Heston to highlight WUCF TV’s newest locally produced shows including the series “ONE.” This new magazine-styled show, tells the stories of the people and places that make Central Florida a truly unique place to live.

Appleton’s President, Diana LaRue is on the board of directors and has been a member of the UCF Town & Gown since 2006. The council is comprised of representatives from the Central Florida community (Town) and the UCF community (Gown).
