UCF Town & Gown Brings Hope to Veterans

When a soldier returns home from battle, his family can finally dismiss the overwhelming sensation of stress. Unfortunately, this is not always the case for the soldier. One in eight veterans develop Posttraumatic Stress Disorder upon their return home. Only half of those diagnosed seek treatment. This is why UCF Town & Gown dedicated their 2014 Friendship Luncheon to bringing hope to these veterans and their families. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, UCF Town & Gown’s Friendship Luncheon showcased the incredible work of Dr. Deborah Beidel, Ph.D., ABPP, from the UCF Department of Psychology, with returning veterans and their families.

Dr. Beidel joined the UCF community in 2007 as a professor and director of the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology. Beidel has made several contributions to UCF’s research community, including opening UCF’s Anxiety Disorders Clinic- dedicated to the study and treatment of anxiety disorders in all ages. Beidel has also written more than 200 publications on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and other anxiety disorders.
