Show Your Stripes: Zebra Coalition Takes Over the Appleton Awareness Gallery

As a thank you to the donors who support Orlando’s LGBT+ community, we invited them to a special event of Zebra Coalition’s Lives of a Different Stripe exhibit, open in the Appleton Awareness Gallery. They explored the artwork created by youth members of Zebra Coalition and LGBT+ supporters from around the nation. Of particular interest were the intricate interactive cardboard sculptures built by Tina Gardiakos, designed to represent issues associated with the youth, the meaning of diversity and her call for safe spaces from bullying, identity issues and other struggles. Several works on display were created in response to the Pulse tragedy through the movement, Paint Strong Orlando, a collection of original works, with materials donated by Sam Flax, from volunteers who wanted to dedicate art to the victims. In addition, one of the most notable displays in the Lives of a Different Stripe gallery is the “heART” piece, a patchwork of drawings with messages of hope, faith and resilience. A select number of pieces were available for purchase.

Appleton is proud to continuously work with Zebra Coalition in their marketing efforts, which include branding materials, videos and, most recently, an anti-bullying campaign to go into school systems across Central Florida and their brand new website coming soon. Appleton CEO and owner, Diana LaRue, has been on the Zebra Coalition board of directors since the first year.

Zebra Coalition: Supporting Lives of a Different Stripe

Zebra Coalition’s mission is to foster hope, dignity and self-respect in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all youth (LGBT+) and to provide them an opportunity to grow up in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.

Zebra Coalition is a network of Central Florida social service providers, government agencies, schools and colleges and universities that provide a full continuum of services to at-risk LGBT+ youth. The Coalition assists young people facing homelessness; bullying; physical, sexual and drug abuse; and isolation from their families with individualized programs to guide them to recovery and stability.

Zebra Coalition is the only organization in Central Florida that can provide a full continuum of services to LGBT+ youth.

Appleton Awareness Gallery Featuring the Giving Circle™

Appleton Creative established the Appleton Awareness Gallery within our offices as a way to bring awareness to local causes through art. Each exhibit showcases a body of work inspired by a specific cause in need. We believe that art should be enjoyed and appreciated, and hope that the meaning behind the art will create an increased awareness for our community’s needs. Featured in the main gallery is the Giving Circle™ art piece. This custom made installation highlights moments that embody the spirit of giving so as to remind us that everyone can make a difference. The Appleton Awareness Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
