Kids Beating Cancer Hosted a Room Full of Champions at the 2017 Hats & Heroes Ball
One of Orlando’s most impactful, hands-on pediatric cancer charity organizations, Kids Beating Cancer (KBC) has been aiding children battling cancer, leukemia and 80 other life-threatening diseases for 25 years. Its annual Hats & Heroes Ball is a profound fundraising event that benefits patients and their families by easing medical costs and shaping a better experience during their hospital stays. As KBC’s go-to Orlando charity marketing agency, we were asked to create a video for the event to articulate the struggles that patients endure and what the organization does to alleviate the families’ hardships.
The Hats & Heroes Ball has been voted one of Orlando’s top charity galas by Orlando Magazine readers. This year’s Phantom of the Opera themed event took place at the Waldorf Astoria on September 30, and included entertainment, such as Terry Barber and his orchestra and Michael Andrew and Swingerhead, followed by dinner and a silent auction. Donations raised during the event are used for Kids Beating Cancer programs, such as funding patients’ transplant matches. Besides providing financial assistance for lifesaving treatments, many of these programs allow KBC to create the familiarity of home by decorating themed bedrooms that are selected by each child, as well as providing food vouchers for hot meals at the hospital’s restaurant. These unique perks truly make a difference for patients and their families when they’re living in the hospital for several weeks, or even months at a time.
In order to efficiently convey everything that KBC does to help the youth in Orlando, our video team visited the Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center at Florida Hospital for Children to uncover the impact that KBC has on patients and their families. The medical director of the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant & Cellular Therapy Program, Dr. David Shook, explained the importance of funding the center in order to continue helping children undergoing transplants. Our team also had the opportunity to speak with patients to fully grasp what it’s like battling life-threatening diseases and how critical it is to have the support of Kids Beating Cancer.
As an Orlando charity marketing agency, we were honored to work with our long-time partner, Kids Beating Cancer, to reveal the journeys of its patients and the significant impact KBC has made on more than 8,000 children. Because KBC aspires to continue making a difference, they are determined to double the size of the transplant center from eight beds to 16 by raising $2 million by the end of 2018. If you would like to contribute to this lifesaving cause, visit the Kids Beating Cancer website and become a hero today.
