How Will AI Impact the Marketing Industry in the Next 10 Years?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably have used AI in some way, or at least heard of it. AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, and it is being integrated more and more into our lives every day.

Introducing ChatGPT a new AI copywriting tool that’s a game-changer. Or is it?

ChatGPT exists in the form of an AI chatbot. Users can ask the AI to do things like gather information, solve complex math problems, debug code, or create original content — all within seconds.

How is the info/data sourced? From where?

The servers of the popular online service often reach capacity, and for good reason. It can quickly perform some tasks that marketing professionals would typically do each day…and it can do it well.

For example, you can ask it to write and proof headlines, emails, pitches, SEO content, or advertising copy. ChatGPT can also create presentations and reports, conduct market research, and assist in developing strategies and plans.

You can even input your company’s information for a completely tailored result. Although it may need some tweaking, ChatGPT can come up with some rather impressive responses.

Cool. But is this thing going to take my job?

ChatGPT is more impressive than concerning.

While this is an exciting new development in technology, it is naturally concerning for people who may have asked the question, “Are the robots going to take over?” Fortunately for marketing professionals, AI is highly unlikely to replace them. It will only “assist” them.

That said, ChatGPT’s AI is by no means perfect.

You see, AI is not a person; it lacks empathy, creativity, and awareness. These are the essential characteristics that make us human. Because ChatGPT is not currently capable of producing an independent thought, its knowledge is based solely on information that has already been written before — by another human.

  • ChatGPT currently isn’t aware of any new information. It only knows information on things that happened pre-2021.
  • ChatGPT lacks originality because it is trained on patterns and examples. For instance, ask it to tell you a joke. Then, prepare to be underwhelmed.
  • ChatGPT doesn’t always provide accurate information. It’s kind of like being the new intern at the office. While its work may be helpful, it still needs proofing and guidance while it’s learning.

The Bottom Line.

OpenAI isn’t the first company to create powerful AI programs that can do these things and certainly won’t be the last. To name a few, other writing AIs in the industry include Copy.ai, Quillbot, StoryLab, Grammarly, Hemingway, Power Thesaurus, and Tweet Hunter. ChatGPT will serve as another resource in the toolbox to get you closer to your end goal.

This may be a daunting time to be in the marketing industry. The good news is this isn’t “Skynet” from The Terminator movies. Marketers will still have their jobs — and they may even become more efficient at them.

Regardless, AI is here to stay. Although it’s getting better at helping society with day-to-day tasks, nothing outweighs human creativity when it comes to developing revenue-driving business and marketing strategies.
