Hat’s off to our Heroes: Kids Beating Cancer Ball
What qualities do you look for in a hero? Someone who’s greatly admired, brave, and overcomes hurdles in the face of light? Many don’t realize that a hero can take on many forms. This weekend, an unlikely group of warriors were honored during the annual Kids Beating Cancer “Hats and Heroes” ball on Saturday, September 28th at Orlando’s Waldorf Astoria.
For over 20 years, Kids Beating Cancer has been serving the Central Florida community by increasing access to treatment for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Appleton’s Diana LaRue and Amy Wise attended the roaring 20’s inspired soirée, which featured decadent cuisine, a live auction and first-class entertainment from Michael Andrew and his Orchestra.
Appleton’s creative team produced a special video that was the highlight of the gala. The video featured the heartwarming story of a 15-year-old boy named Theo, and his fight to battle Myleodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disease that requires a bone marrow transplant. Theo had a surprise visit from his donor and the on-stage meeting gave the audience the opportunity to thank the brave donor for saving a life.
If you’re interested in supporting Kids Beating Cancer, please join us on Sunday, October 6th from 11:30am to 2:30pm at Lake Eola Park for our second annual Giving Tree event. Guests are invited to purchase a wish for a child with cancer and decorate the branches of a tree. To learn more visit: http://bit.ly/18owhoc.
