Each Light Tells a Story: PurpleLight Vigil of Hope
Local residents, pancreatic cancer survivors and volunteers with the Central Florida affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network met at Appleton’s office on Sunday, October 27th to join tens of thousands of Americans at more than 50 National PurpleLight Vigil of Hope events across the country. The PurpleLight Vigil of Hope calls attention to one of our nation’s deadliest cancers – pancreatic cancer.
To help spread awareness and light the night purple, Appleton Creative opened their doors to the Central Florida group in hosting the Vigil. Over 100 guests joined us on our lawn to pay tribute, meet with friends and family and illuminate glow sticks in honor of their loved ones.
The candlelight vigil kicks off National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November by remembering those who have fought pancreatic cancer and honoring survivors. Pancreatic cancer has the lowest five-year survival rate of all major cancers at just six percent. This year, more than 45,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States.
Additionally, guests were invited to tour the Appleton Awareness Gallery showcasing artwork created for and by individuals whose lives are affected by pancreatic cancer. The PurpleLight show will be on exhibit until November. A portion of all art sales will benefit the Central Florida Pancreatic Cancer Action Network affiliate. The Appleton Awareness Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
