Derricka’s Top 10 Youtube Videos of 2012

December is finally here – the final month of 2012.  For me: December is a month filled with happiness, garland, and the Christmas spirit. This is the time when we pull out all the wrapping paper and survival kits. “Did she just say survival kits?” Yes. Survival kits. The Mayans predicted the end of the world on December 21st, 2012. Well, that date is coming up pretty soon. It’s unsaid if the end of the world will be a Zombie Apocalypse, Armageddon, or just the end of the Mayan Calendar. I am unsure, but I do know that we need to cherish the moments we have with our friends and family now. Tomorrow is never promised. And why not cherish this time by remembering all the wonderful things the Internet has given us … such as, my favorite videos from 2012.

Check out my list of this year’s best Youtube videos, according to me:

1. Gangnam Style

Why did “Gangnam Style” receive more than 900 million views? Perhaps, it’s the fact that PSY, a South Korean rapper, jams out to techno, surrounded by horses, beautiful women, a carousel, commuters, old people and sings part of the song from the toilet.

2) Kony 2012

Invisible Children, a movement seeking to end the conflict in Uganda, created the film Kony 2012 to expose the Lord’s Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony, who has been kidnapping and abducting Uganda’s youth for nearly three decades.

3. Carly Rae Jepsen – “Call Me Maybe”

It’s the song that you love to hate. You can thank Justin Beiber’s Tweet for the skyrocketing popularity of Carly Rae Jepsen’s ever-so-catchy “Call Me Maybe”. Do you have it stuck in your head now?

4. Felix Baumgartner’s Test Jump – Red Bull Stratos

Sponsored by Red Bull, Felix Baumgartner completed a skydive from the middle of earth’s stratosphere and it was done live on YouTube.

5. A Dramatic Surprise on a Quiet Square

An ad by TNT captures an amazing stunt in the center of a little town Belgium, where nothing really happens.

6. Procter & Gamble: “Best Job”

In anticipation of London Olympic Games, Procter & Gamble released a new ad, “Best Job” praising mothers worldwide. The tear-jerking video features mother from four different continents and their journey while raising their young Olympians.

7. Dumb Ways to Die

Believe it or not this comical video is actually a safety reminder for Melbourne, Australia Metro train riders.

Goofy, close-shaven company founder Michael Dubin sells high quality razors, delivered right to your door each month (not to Canada though).

9. Arrested Drunk Guy Sings Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested 29-year-old Robert Wilkinson for intoxication and while in the police car he decides deliver a drunkin rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

10. Catch the Ice Dude

Not so bright German man jumps into pool of frozen ice – didn’t end so gracefully.

That’s all the time I have folks. Thank you for reading Dericka’s Corner and good luck on December 21, 2012.
