How We Pranked Our Intern & 5 More Office Pranks to Try this April Fools’ Day

April Fools Day Office Pranks

Blog written by: Kristen Unico – The pranked intern

After meeting the Appleton team at the University of Central Florida’s Intern Pursuit, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to interview for a social media and copywriting internship position. As I made my way up the steps into the big, yellow house for my interview, I found myself walking in on an April Fools’ office prank — a prank that requires participants to be blindfolded, reach their hands into the unknown and take a guess at what is inside each mystery box. To my surprise, the team asked if I wanted to participate before my interview. To the team’s surprise, I enthusiastically said yes.

I reached into boxes that contained spaghetti noodles, cottage cheese, a used loofah and peanut butter. As I extended my arm into the fifth and final box, a fellow Appletonian grabbed my hand. Just like every other participant, I jumped and hollered, and my shocked reaction was hilariously priceless. Luckily for me, I get to relive my fun pre-interview experience, as the whole office prank is live on our social media.

This unexpected prank was all it took for me to learn just how fun and collaborative Appleton’s company culture is and to accept the internship position. If you’re looking to liven up your office’s day-to-day routine, office pranks are definitely the way to go. The time of year to pull them is right around the corner, and here are five hilarious April Fools’ ideas for the office that are guaranteed to make anyone laugh.

Creepy Crawlers
Difficulty: Easy
Result: Don’t bug me

For anyone with a coworker that shudders at even the thought of bugs, try out this April Fools’ Day office prank. Place a cup on your coworker’s desk or anywhere nearby to see the paranoia unfold. You can keep what’s under the cup empty, but for added shock value, place a fake bug below it and quickly scare the individual that’s brave enough to reveal the creepy crawler.

Make a Grand Entrance
Difficulty: Medium
Result: Wake-up call

Which will be louder: the airhorn itself or your jumpy coworkers? Change up how your coworkers make an entrance and mount an airhorn behind any office door. Every scare makes for a good laugh, but if an airhorn is too evil for your taste, try other great alternatives, such as whoopee cushions, squeaky dog toys and anything else that makes a noise with impact.

Dare to Be Disappointed
Difficulty: Medium
Result: Dough not prank me

This April Fools’ Day office prank requires a certain type of evil. Simply place healthy snacks inside the box of the office’s favorite donut shop, pizza spot or any other place of indulgence. At first glance, your coworkers may think they’re in for a treat. Little do they know, they’ll be let down by the complete opposite of what they expected. After they shoot you a disheartening glare, they may just thank you later for encouraging healthy eating.
