Blessings in a Backpack

The goal of national organization Blessings in a Backpack is simple: improve educational performance in America’s youth through proper nutrition. Students from qualifying low-income families are given a backpack stocked with healthy food to take home over the weekend so they can come back to school on Mondays ready to learn. The program is results-oriented, meaning that it focuses on both the short-term goal of feeding elementary students a nutritious meal, but also the long-term goals which include better attendance, higher test scores, positive behavioral changes, and improved health. The organization accepts donations to contribute to the $80 per school year that it takes for one student to have a healthy menu for the weekend.

Orlando advertising agency Appleton Creative volunteered their services for an event for Blessings in a Backpack held at the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club. The event was filmed by Appleton to increase awareness in our community about the wonderful organization. The occasion was a great success, and enough funds were raised to feed over 1,000 children from local school districts for many upcoming school years.
