Appleton’s Weekend Wrap-up: Health, Hope, and Pride
Where did the weekend go? Appleton Creative stayed busy this past Saturday with a full calendar of client events. From community walks to charity balls, Appleton kept up the pace and didn’t miss a beat. Checkout which events we attended below:
Mayors’ Sole Challenge
Bright and early Saturday morning, we arrived in Winter Park to take part in Healthy Central Florida’s Mayors’ Sole Challenge. The event attracted more than 500 people, including Mayor’s from three of Orlando’s distinctive communities: Eatonville, Maitland, and Winter Park. The Appleton team sported matching T-shirts and yellow wristbands to stand out amongst the crowd. We’re proud to note that each one of us accomplished our goal of walking for 30 minutes straight.
Appleton wants to thank everyone who came out to support Healthy Central Florida.
Congratulations to Eatonville for bringing the most walkers and winning the inaugural Mayors’ Sole Challenge! The Eatonville Parks and Recreation department will receive $1,000 for use on playgrounds, parks, trails or any improvement to help residents be more active.
Mayors from Winter Park, Eatonville, and Maitland, will join their community team and be one step closer toward making their communities the healthiest in the nation
Kids Beating Cancer Hats & Heroes Ball
Saturday featured a breathtaking sunset from Orlando’s Waldorf Astoria and Kids Beating Cancer Hats and Heroes Ball. Appleton’s Diana LaRue, Amy Wise and Kassi McPhee attended this year’s event, which took place at the beautiful Waldorf Astoria. For over 20 years, KBC has been serving the Central Florida community by increasing access to treatment for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The black tie event included dinner, live auction and first class entertainment from Michael Andrew and special guest a world-renowned Barbra Streisand impersonator, Carla DelVillaggio.
Orlando Pride
Also on Saturday, Appleton Creative supported the 2012 Come Out with Pride Orlando Festival by creating graphics for the Zebra Coaltion’s interactive village. The yearly event celebrates equality, unity and diversity for LGBTQ citizens and their allies alike. Saturday’s festival kicked off at noon with more than 150 vendors, food trucks, live music, a commitment ceremony, pride parade, and fireworks.
Diana LaRue sits on the board for Zebra Foundation, which supports the Zebra Coalition. Recently, Appleton hosted a fundraiser for the Zebra Coalition at our home. Proceeds from event went towards benefiting Central Florida’s LGBTQ youth.
