Emotion and inspiration flooded the Rollins College Alfond Sports Center yesterday morning as Central Florida philanthropists gathered for the fourth annual Victory Cup Initiative. After an extensive selection and training process, 10 Central Florida nonprofit organizations were given the opportunity to share their stories about their missions and contributions to the community. To prepare for showcase day, the finalists participated in public speaking and storytelling training, in addition to networking opportunities.
A total of $52,000 was given in prize money with winners determined by a live audience vote. Every participant left the showcase with at least $1,000 for their nonprofit organization. There were a few organizations that came out on top.
The first place champion, winning a prize of $20,000, was Camaraderie Foundation whose mission is to provide mental health counseling, support and healing for all post-9/11 veterans, service members and their families.
The second place prize of $15,000 was awarded to Chance 2 Dance, an organization that provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in a purposeful, inclusive and quality dance program. Jobs Partnership, a faith-based organization dedicated to building a healthy workforce as well as empowering and enhancing employability, earned the $10,000 third place price.
The additional seven contestants who received a $1,000 award were Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center, Conductive Education Center of Orlando, Edgewood Children’s Ranch, IMPOWER, Matthew’s Hope Ministries, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and Victim Service Center of Central Florida.
