Technology and innovation are becoming the drivers of our local economy. As a precursor to the impending changes, the University of Central Florida’s Town & Gown Council recently held an exclusive luncheon at the UCF Center for Emerging Media (CEM), giving members a look at what the center is becoming, and how it will increase Orlando’s creative output through education.
In April 2004, Electronic Arts (EA), the Economic Development Commission and other partners helped UCF secure funding from the State of Florida to develop a graduate-level video game design program and the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) was born.
The City of Orlando has since formed a partnership with UCF to provide a home for FIEA in the Center for Emerging Media. FIEA will be joined by a number of production-oriented state university programs including Flying Horse Editions (fine arts press), UF’s Citylab (architecture), and a varity of film, art and digital media programs from the UCF School of Visual Art and Design.
